"Many Chinese American children have internalized their anger and pain, confused about why they are treated differently from their non-Chinese friends.  Often they become ashamed of their ethnic heritage after concluding that their unfair denial is a form of punishment for doing something wrong." -from Bill Shuette, Michigan Attorney General v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, Integration, and Immigrant Rights...

"In view of this family's past experience, we should be proud of these Chinese pioneers, along with others, who stood up for their rights as Americans and as Chinese in America.  We should take our education in high regard as an earned privilege paid for by our Chinese predecessors."-Sandra Wong der Bing.
The Mississippi Delta Chinese community still exists, but it is smaller than in the early 1900s.  Some of the groceries are still open, but many Chinese have moved away.  The first Chinese Mission School was demolished in 2003.    At Delta State University in Cleveland, the community organized a collection of memorabilia and started the Mississippi Delta Chinese Heritage Museum.  The Delta Chinese still get together for reunions and weddings, as they have for over a hundred years.
